Weekend Box Office — February 2-4, 2007

Sony’s new release The Messengers won a close weekend, ahead of Universal’s Because I Said So, taking in $14.71M from 2,528 theaters.

Following in second place for the weekend was Because I Said So which took in $13.12M from 2,526 theaters.

There were no other new releases in the top 10.

Rounding out the top five was Epic Movie at number three with $8.41M from 2,840 theaters ($29.56M through 10 days of release), Night at the Museum in fourth place with $6.39M from 3,003 theaters ($225.00M through 45 days of release) and Smokin’ Aces in fifth place with $6.11M from 2,219 theaters ($24.74M through 10 days of release).

The weekend’s best performing movie from the week prior in the top 10 was Picture House’s Pan’s Labyrinth which was down only 22.9% from last weekend with a take of $3.68M ($21.72M through 38 days of release).

The best per theater average went to Sony’s The Messengers, which averaged $5,820 per theater.
