Former Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Michael Irvin leads the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2007, along with running back Thurman Thomas, offensive lineman Bruce Mathews, defensive back Roger Wehrli, tight end Charlie Sanders and guard Gene Hickerson (both of which were the two nominees of the veterans’ committee).
A 40 member panel voted to reduce 17 nominees to 11 through one round of voting, then 11 to the final six in the second and final round of voting.
Other nominees were retired NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, Russ Grimm, Ray Guy, Bob Kuechenberg, Andre Reed and Gary Zimmerman (voted out in the first vote) along with Fred Dean, Richard Dent, Art Monk, Derrick Thomas and Andre Tippett (out in the second vote).
The induction ceremonies will take place in Canton, Ohio, home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, on Saturday, August 4 at 6:00 p.m. ET.
