Weekend Box Office — January 26-28, 2007

The new release Epic Movie won day-to-day, ahead of Smokin’ Aces to take the top spot for the weekend, taking in $18.61M from 2,801 theaters.

Following in second place for the weekend was Smokin’ Aces which took in $14.64M from 2,218 theaters.

The only other new release in the top 10 was Sony’s Catch and Release at number five which took in $7.66M from 1,622 theaters.

Rounding out the top five was Night at the Museum at number three with $9.56M from 3,241 theaters ($216.85M through 38 days of release) and after spending two weeks at number one, Stomp the Yard dropped to fourth place with $7.69M from 2,115 theaters ($50.54M through 17 days of release).

The only other wide-opening new release this weekend was MGM’s Blood and Chocolate which debuted in 16th place with a mediocre $2.07M from 1,200 theaters.

The weekend’s best performing movie from the week prior in the top 10 was Miramax’s The Queen which was up 18.0% from last weekend with a take of $4.01M ($41.25M through 121 days of release). While The Departed was the best performer out of the top 10, getting a noticeable bump due to its re-introduction into theaters (+1,326 theaters). It took in $3.37M from 1,453 theaters (12th place), up 1,014.6% from the week prior. The total for the movie now stands at $125.24M through 115 days of release.

The best per theater average went to Universal’s Epic Movie, which took in averaged $6,644 per theater.
