“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” highest rated New Year’s countdown program

ABC’s annual New Year’s Eve special was once again the top draw for viewers during the countdown to 2007.

The entire program, which ran from 11:35 PM to 1:06 AM drew an average 15.01 million total viewers, with 7.16 million Adults 18-49.

It defeated the combined audiences of those watching the NBC and Fox specials.

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” (11:30 p.m. -12:30 a.m.):
From 11:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m., ABC’s broadcast of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” attracted an average audience of 18.31 million Total Viewers and 8.39 million Adults 18-49 (6.5/22).

Please Note: The total program average as reported by Nielsen of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve – Part 1,” with 11:35 p.m. – 1:06 a.m. run time, was 15.01 million viewers and 7.16 million Adults 18-49. Since 1992, Part 1 of the ABC New Year’s show has been an approximate 1-hour program, as opposed to the 90-minute duration this year.

* Versus other network New Year’s Eve specials during their common midnight-spanning hour (11:30 p.m. – 12:30 p.m.), “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” outdelivered the combined audiences of NBC’s “New Year’s Eve w/Carson Daly” and Fox’s “New Year’s Eve – Times Square ’06” by wide margins: +45% in Total Viewers (18.31 million vs. 12.62 million – NBC and Fox combined) and + 35% among Adults 18-49 (8.39 million vs. 6.21 million).

* Based on the hour average, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” topped every other TV program during primetime for the week of December 25, 2006 among Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. In fact it outpaced the top primetime show of the week by 11% in Total Viewers and by 22% in Adults 18-49 (NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” = 16.43 million viewers & 6.90 million AD 18-49).

* The top New Year’s program on cable, “MTV Goes Gold NYE 2007″ (1.41 million viewers and 830,000 Adults 18-49 from 11:00 p.m. -12:30 a.m.), delivered a small fraction of the audience for “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve – Part 2″ (1:06-2:06 a.m.):
Despite the late time period, the second segment of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve – Part 2″ attracted 4.93 million Total Viewers on average and 2.85 million Adults 18-49. The segment was up from last year on both counts (Last year = 4.82 million viewers and 2.67 million).
