Broadcast TV Ratings for Friday, December 15, 2006

CBS leads the pack on a lower than average viewed Friday. “Numb3rs” was the nights highest rated program in all main categories.

CBS finished in first place for the evening with an 6.5/12 household rating and 10.13 million total viewers. Among adults 18-49, the Eye earned a 2.8/9 rating, also good enough for first place.

  • Last Week:
    • 5.8/10 HH rating [#2]
    • 10.83M viewers [#1]
    • 3.6/11 A18-49 [#1]
  • 8:00 PM: Leading off CBS’s winning night was “Ghost Whisperer” (6.1/12 HH rating, 9.63M viewers, 2.8/10 A18-49 rating) which won the hour in all three categories and was an impressive second for the evening among all shows (behind “Numb3rs”) despite being done overall from its season average.
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (11/24/2006):
      • Households – 6.5/12 to 6.1/12
      • Viewers – 10.57M to 9.63M
      • A18-49 – 3.1/10 to 2.8/10
  • 9:00 PM: Following after then was “Close to Home” (6.3/11 HH rating, 10.38M viewers, 2.5/8 A18-49 rating) which managed to hold on very nicely to its lead-ins audience (increasing households) and secured a first place finish for the hour in households and viewers and a tie for first among adults 18-49 with NBC’s “Las Vegas”.
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (11/24/2006):
      • Households – 6.6/12 to 6.3/11
      • Viewers – 10.06M to 9.59M
      • A18-49 – 2.2/7 to 2.5/8
  • 10:00 PM: Ending the evening for the Eye was “Numb3rs” (7.2/13 HH rating, 11.18M viewers, 3.1/10 A18-49 rating) which was the top rated show for the evening in all three categories and secured CBS as the winning network for every hour of the night.
    • Episode-to-episode numbers (11/24/2006):
      • Households – 7.4/14 to 7.2/13
      • Viewers – 11.73M to 11.18M
      • A18-49 – 2.9/10 to 3.1/10

NBC finished in second place for the evening with a 5.2/9 household rating and 7.96 million total viewers. Among adults 18-49, the Peacock was also second with a 2.3/7 rating in the demo.

  • Last Week:
    • 6.4/11 HH Rating [#1]
    • 9.73M viewers [#2]
    • 2.8/9 A18-49 rating [#2]
  • 8:00 PM: “1 vs. 100″ (5.5/10 HH rating, 8.82M viewers, 2.3/8 A18-49 rating) did enough to get a second place finish for the hour in all three categories.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 5.9/11 to 5.5/10
      • Viewers – 9.06M to 8.82M
      • A18-49 – 2.6/8 to 2.3/8
  • 9:00 PM: Holding firm and increasing in adult 18-49 viewers was “Las Vegas” (5.4/10 HH rating, 8.35M viewers, 2.5/8 A18-49 rating). That A18-49 rating was good enough for a tie on the hour with “Close to Home”. Though that’s a positive, as you can see from the numbers below, the series did lose a good chunk of its audience from last week (dipping 1.58M in viewers, 22% in households and 14% in adults 18-49).

      • Households – 6.6/11 to 5.4/10
      • Viewers – 9.93M to 8.35
      • A18-49 – 2.9/9 to 2.5/8
  • 10:00 PM: NBC ended the evening with a repeat of its veteran procedural “Law & Order” (4.6/8 HH rating, 6.71M viewers, 2.0/6 A18-49 rating).

ABC followed in third place for the evening with a 4.8/9 household rating and 7.16 million total viewers and earned a 2.1/7 rating among adults 18-49.

  • Last Week:
    • 5.1/9 HH rating [#3]
    • 7.71M viewers [#3]
    • 2.3/7 A18-49 rating [#3]
  • 8:00 PM: The alphabet started the evening off with a repeat of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (4.0/7 HH rating, 6.45M viewers, 1.7/6 A18-49 rating) before moving into..
  • 9:00 PM: the first hour of “20/20″ (5.1/9 HH rating, 7.40M viewers, 2.2/7 A18-49 rating) which grew nearly 1M viewers, 27% in households and 29% in adults 18-49.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 5.2/9 to 5.1/9
      • Viewers – 7.81M to 7.40M
      • A18-49 – 2.3/7 to 2.2/7
  • 10:00 PM, The final hour of “20/20″ (5.3/10 HH rating, 7.62M viewers, 2.4/7 A18-49 rating) kept viewers interested as the program increased slightly over its first hour en route to a second place finish on the hour behind “Numb3rs” and a “Law & Order” repeat. Though as you can see from the numbers below, it wasn’t quite as good a performance as last week’s program.
    • Episode-to-episode numbers:
      • Households – 5.9/10 to 5.3/10
      • Viewers – 8.72M to 7.62MM
      • A18-49 – 2.6/8 to 2.4/7

The CW followed in fourth place with a 2.6/5 household rating and 4.46 million total viewers. Among adults 18-49, the new network also placed fourth with a 1.6/5 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 2.7/5 HH rating [#5]
    • 4.17M viewers [#5]
    • 1.4/4 A18-49 rating [#4]
  • 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM: “WWE Smackdown” (2.6/4 HH rating, 4.46M viewers, 1.6/5 A18-49 rating) did just enough to push the new network ahead of struggling Fox (well I suppose struggling only until “AI” and “24” return). More importantly though was the improvement in the program from the week prior in key demo and viewer categories.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 2.7/5 to 2.6/4
      • Viewers – 4.17M to 4.46M
      • A18-49 – 1.4/4 to 1.6/5

Fox finished in fifth place for the evening with a 2.4/4 household rating and 3.66 million total viewers. Among adults 18-49 the network earned a 1.2/4 rating (fifth place).

  • Last Week:
    • 2.9/5 HH rating [#4]
    • 4.25M viewers [#4]
    • 1.3/4 A18-49 rating [#5]
  • 8:00 PM: Kicking off the night for Fox was “Justice” (2.7/5 HH rating, 3.93M viewers, 1.2/4 A18-49 rating) which was fourth for the hour in households, but was fifth in viewers and adults 18-49. The series dipped some after showing promise last week. Numbers in its new timeslot are shown below.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 3.0/5 to 3.3/6 to 2.7/5
      • Viewers – 4.29M to 4.58M to 3.93M
      • A18-49 – 1.4/5 to 1.2/4 to 1.2/4
  • 9:00 PM: And closing the evening for Fox was “Trading Spouses” (2.1/3 HH rating, 3.38M viewers, 1.3/4 A18-49 rating).
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 2.5/4 to 2.1/3
      • Viewers – 3.91M to 3.38M
      • A18-49 – 1.5/4 to 1.3/4
