Broadcast TV Ratings for Sunday, October 29, 2006

In a very close Sunday, three networks can claim some sort of victory as CBS took households, ABC took viewers and adults 18-49 and NBC finished a strong and close second in A18-49.

CBS finished in first for the evening with a 9.7/15 HH rating but was second in viewers behind ABC (14.97M) and third in adults 18-49, delivering a 4.2/10 rating in that demo.

  • Note: NFL Overrun ran into about 15-20 minutes of CBS’s schedule.
  • At 7:00 PM, “60 Minutes” (12.7/21 HH rating, 5.4 A18-49 rating).

      • Households – 8.1/14 to 12.7/21
      • A18-49 – 2.6 to 5.4
  • At 8:00 PM, “The Amazing Race 10″ (8.3/14 HH rating, 4.0 A18-49 rating).
    • Week to Week Numbers:
      • Households – 8.9/14 to 8.3/14
      • A18-49 – 3.8 to 4.0
  • At 9:00 PM, “Cold Case” (8.8/13 HH rating, 3.8 A18-49 rating).
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 9.2/14 to 8.8/13
      • A18-49 – 4.3 to 3.8
  • At 10:00 PM, “Without a Trace” (9.1/16 HH rating, 3.7 A18-49 rating) .
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 9.6/16 to 9.1/16
      • A18-49 – 4.3 to 3.7

ABC followed in second for the for the evening with a 9.4/15 HH rating, but had more viewers (15.40M) than CBS and was first in A18-49, delivering a 5.4/14 rating in that demo.

    • 13.47M viewers [#2]
    • 5.2/13 A18-49 rating [#2]
  • At 7:00 PM, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (6.5/11 HH rating, 11.98M viewers, 3.5/10 A18-49 rating) proved it still has something after all these years.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 5.5/9 to 6.5/11
      • Viewers – 9.58M to 11.98M
      • A18-49 – 3.0/9 to 3.5/10
  • At 8:00 PM, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (9.1/14 HH rating, 15.83M viewers, 5.5/13 A18-49 rating) gained impressively over its lead-in in all categories, but even more impressive was its improvement from the week prior.
    • Week to Week Numbers:
      • Households – 7.4/11 to 9.1/14
      • Viewers – 12.68M to 15.83M
      • A18-49 – 4.9/12 to 5.5/13
  • At 9:00 PM, “Desperate Housewives” (13.3/20 HH rating 21.14M viewers, 8.3/19 A18-49 rating) showed nice signs of growth from the previous week and was easily the nights winner in households, viewers and adults 18-49.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 12.4/18 to 13.3/20
      • Viewers – 19.51M to 21.14M
      • A18-49 – 8.0/18 to 8.3/19
  • At 10:00 PM, “Brothers & Sisters” (8.6/15 HH rating, 12.67M viewers, 5.0/13 A18-49 rating) didn’t have very good retention rates out of ‘Housewives’ (around 60%), but its still performing consistently week to week and is doing a strong second in the time-period for A18-49, and is above what “Boston Legal” did in the time-period back in its first season.

      • Households – 8.4/14 to 8.6/15
      • Viewers – 12.10M to 12.67M
      • A18-49 – 5.0/12 to 5.0/13

NBC finished in third place with a 9.2/14 HH rating (13.36M viewers), and was second in A18-49, delivering a 5.2/13 rating in that demo.

  • Last Week’s Numbers:
    • 3.5/5 HH rating [#4]
    • 5.14M viewers [#4]
    • 2.1/5 A18-49 rating [#4]
  • At 7:00 PM “Football Night In America” (6.4/10 HH rating, 3.9/6 A18-49 rating) began the evening for NBC with its usual performance.
  • At 8:15 PM, “NFL Football: Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers” (11.2/18 HH rating, 17.3M viewers, 6.8/15 A18-49 rating) provided a much needed boost to “Sunday Night Football” from the mediocre numbers from two weeks ago (about 12M viewers).

    FOX followed in fourth for the evening with a 2.8/4 HH rating (4.42M viewers) and a 2.0/5 A18-49 rating.

    • FOX filled its World Series-less schedule with the following repeats:
      • At 7:00 PM, “The Simpsons”
        • 2.4/4 HH rating, 3.86M viewers, 1.6/4 A18-49 rating
      • At 7:30 PM, “‘Til Death”
        • 2.5/4 HH rating, 3.93M viewers, 1.7/4 A18-49 rating
      • At 8:00 PM, “The Simpsons”
        • 3.3/5 HH rating, 5.38M viewers, 2.5/6 A18-49 rating
      • At 8:30 PM, “American Dad”
        • 2.8/4 HH rating, 4.61M viewers, 2.2/5 A18-49 rating
      • At 9:00 PM, “Family Guy”
        • 3.2/5 HH rating, 5.13M viewers, 2.5/6 A18-49 rating
      • At 9:30 PM, “The War at Home”
        • 2.4/4 HH rating, 3.63M viewers, 1.6/4 A18-49 rating

    The CW finished in fifth place with a 1.5/2 HH rating (2.14M viewers), and a 0.8/2 A18-49 rating.

      • 1.6/2 HH rating [#5]
      • 2.34M viewers [#5]
      • 0.9/2 A18-49 rating [#5]
    • At 7:00 PM, a repeat of “Supernatural” (1.1/2 HH rating, 1.67M viewers, 0.5/1 A18-49 rating) aired in a slot which The CW has yet to find a suitable lead-in to “7th Heaven”.
    • At 8:00 PM, a new “7th Heaven” (2.1/3 HH rating, 3.14M viewers, 1.1/2 A18-49 rating) was pretty much the only program anyone was watching on The CW, and it stayed consistent from the week before, but is down from last season.
      • Week to Week Numbers:
        • Households – 2.2/3 to 2.1/3
        • Viewers – 3.25M to 3.14M
        • A18-49 – 1.1/3 to 1.1/2
    • At 9:00 PM, a repeat of “America’s Next Top Model” (1.2/2 HH rating, 1.61M viewers, 0.7/2 A18-49 rating) ended off the evening for the network, with not very many viewers tuning in.
