‘Saw III’ Wins Box Office (Oct. 27-29)

 

Taking in an estimated $34.300M (All data based on Studio Estimates. Weekend actuals will be released Monday afternoon. Any comparisons will be using actual data.), “Saw III” easily won the weekend and topped the franchise’s previous two openings ($31.726M for Saw II and $18.276M for Saw).

The film opened in 3,167 theaters.


“The Departed” came in #2 again for the second weekend, dropping less than 27% with $9.840M. It’s tally through three weeks now stands at $91.090M. It has also added about $25M from its foreign box office.

Coming in at #3 for the weekend then was “The Prestige” with $6.626M, dropping 35% from the previous week where it opened at #1 ($28.834M through two weeks of release.)

Dropping one spot to #4 for the weekend was “Flags of our Fathers”, with $6.350M ($19.926 through two weeks).

“Open Season” also dropped one spot, finishing #5 with $6.100M ($77.357M through five weeks).

The rest of the top 10 went as follows;

  • #6 – “Flicka” – $4.975M ($14.138M through 2 weeks)
  • #7 – “Man of the Year” – $4.714M ($28.871M through 3 weeks)
  • #8 – “The Grudge 2″ – $3.300M ($36.016M through 3 weeks)
  • #9 – “Marie Antoinette” – $2.850M ($9.756M through 2 weeks)
  • #10 – “Running with Scissors” – Opened wide this week – $2.550M ($2.884M through 2 weeks)
