Broadcast TV Ratings for Monday, October 23, 2006

CBS wins the evening in households and viewers, while NBC, on the success of the surprise hit “Heroes” (the nights top performer in A18-49) won the evening in Adults 18-49.


CBS finished first for the evening with an 8.8/13 HH rating (13.34M viewers) and second in A18-49, delivering a 4.5/11 rating in that demo.

  • Last Week’s Numbers:
    • 8.9/14 HH rating [#1]
    • 13.81M viewers [#1]
    • 4.5/11 A18-49 rating [#2]
  • At 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM, “How I Met Your Mother” (9.77M viewers, 3.6/10 A18-49 rating) and “The Class” (8.12M viewers, 2.9/8 A18-49 rating) was a mixed bag. ‘Mother’ gave a good performance, increasing from the week prior, but “The Class” lost some viewers. The trouble spot is A18-49. The time-period is also down from former occupants “King of Queen” at 8:00 PM and “How I Met Your Mother” at 8:30 PM – 11.06M (3.9/10 A18-49) last year to 8.95M (3.3/9 A18-49) this year.

      • Viewers – 9.25M to 9.77M
      • A18-49 – 3.4/9 to 3.6/10
    • Week-to-Week Numbers (“The Class”):

      • Viewers – 8.70M to 8.12M
      • A18-49 – 3.1/8 to 2.9/8
  • At 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM, “Two and a Half Men” (15.06M viewers, 4.7/11 A18-49 rating) and “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (12.09M viewers, 3.9/9 A18-49 rating), down some from the week prior, but both still are performing very well.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers (“Two and a Half Men”):
      • Households -10.4/15 to 9.8/14
      • Viewers – 16.37M to 15.06
      • A18-49 – 5.2/12 to 4.7/11
    • Week-to-Week Numbers (“The New Adventures of Old Christine”):
      • Households – 8.7/13 to 8.1/12
      • Viewers – 13.27M to 12.09M
      • A18-49 – 4.2/10 to 3.9/9
  • At 10:00 PM, “CSI: Miami” (17.49M viewers, 6.0/15 A18-49 rating) provided the nights largest audience and total viewers.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 11.4/19 to 11.5/19
      • Viewers – 17.62M to 17.49M
      • A18-49 – 5.6/14 to 6.0/15

NBC followed in second place with a 7.8/12 HH rating (12.50M viewers), and first in A18-49, delivering a 4.6/12 rating in that demo.

    • 7.8/12 HH rating [#2]
    • 12.70M viewers [#2]
    • 4.7/11 A18-49 rating [#1]
  • At 8:00 PM, “Deal or No Deal” (15.52M viewers, 4.4/12 A18-49 rating), was down some from the week prior, but still delivered a very large audience.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 10.5/16 to 9.8/15
      • Viewers – 17.27M to 15.52M
      • A18-49 – 5.2/14 to 4.4/12
  • At 9:00 PM, “Heroes” (14.27M viewers, 6.2/15 A18-49 rating) continues to be one of the biggest surprises of the season, winning the night in A18-49 and increasing its audience more than 1M viewers from the week prior.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 7.8/11 to 8.6/13
      • Viewers – 13.07M to 14.27M
      • A18-49 – 5.7/13 to 6.2/15
  • At 10:00 PM, “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” (7.70M viewers, 3.1/8 A18-49 rating) continued its so-so ratings. The show seems to have bottomed out, as ratings were nearly identical to last week, we’ll see where it goes from here.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 5.3/9 to 5.1/8
      • Viewers – 7.76M to 7.70M
      • A18-49 – 3.1/8 to 3.1/8

ABC finished in third place with a 5.0/8 HH rating, but was fourth in viewers (7.19M), and third in A18-49, delivering a 2.9/7 rating in that demo. All week-to-week episode comparisons for ABC are using the final nationals.

  • Last Week’s Numbers:
    • 6.2/9 HH rating [#3]
    • 9.17M viewers [#3]
    • 3.6/9 A18-49 rating [#3]
  • At 8:00 PM, “Wife Swap” (7.36M viewers, 2.8/8 A18-49 rating) delievered strong ratings for a repeat, nearly even from a new episode last week.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 5.2/8 to 4.9/7
      • Viewers – 8.06M to 7.36M
      • A18-49 – 3.3/8 to 2.8/8
  • At 9:00 PM, “The Bachelor: Rome” (8.20M viewers, 3.2/8 A18-49 rating), stayed consistent from the week prio in all categories.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 6.5/10 to 5.8/9
      • Viewers – 8.66M to 8.20M
      • A18-49 – 3.3/8 to 3.2/8
  • At 10:00 PM, “What About Brian” (6.02M viewers, 2.6/7 A18-49 rating) after building nicely in its first two weeks, took a bit of a slide in categories.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 5.7/9 to 4.4/7
      • Viewers – 7.34M to 6.02M
      • A18-49 – 3.2/8 to 2.6/7

Fox followed in fourth for the evening delivering a 4.7/7 HH rating, but was third in viewers (7.34M) and fourth in A18-49, delivering a 2.6/7 rating in that demo.

  • Last Week’s Numbers:
    • 3.1/5 HH rating [#4]
    • 4.41M viewers [#4]
    • 1.5/4 A18-49 rating [#4]
  • At 8:00 PM, the return of “Prison Break” (8.47M viewers, 3.2/9 A18-49 rating) stayed consistent with its most recently aired episode (Oct. 2nd.); 8.99M viewers, 3.8 A18-49 rating.
  • At 9:00 PM, the time-period premiere of “Justice” (6.21M viewers, 2.0/5 A18-49 rating) didn’t differ much from former occupant “Vanished” which delivered 6.15M viewers on Oct. 2nd.

The CW finished in fifth for the evening delivering a 1.9/3 HH rating (2.83M viewers) and a 1.2/3 A18-49 rating.

  • At 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM, “Girlfriends” (2.77M viewers, 1.2/3 A18-49 rating) and “The Game” (2.47M viewers, 1.1/3 A18-49 rating) ended the evening for The CW.
