Fox finally gets a great performance out of its MLB Playoffs to win the evening in households, viewers and A18-49.


Fox finished first for the evening with a 10.2/16 HH rating (16.10M viewers) and a 5.4/14 A18-49 rating.

  • At 7:00 PM, “NFL Overrun” (10.6/19 HH rating, 6.0 A18-49 rating) continues to really deliver the goods, jumpstarting the network to a large audience as the night began.
  • At 7:30 PM, “The OT” (8.7/14 HH rating, 4.7 A18-49 rating) led into “MLB Baseball”.
  • From 8:00 PM to the end of the game after prime time, “MLB World Series Game 2: St Louis Cardinals at Detroit Tigers” (about 18.2M viewers, 5.8/14 A18-49 rating). This is now the highest rated playoff baseball game of the season, and actually surpasses the rating of the comparable game last season (17.2M viewers, 5.7/14 A18-49 rating for the matchup between the Astros and White Sox).
    • Numbers may change as Finals are released.

ABC followed tied for second place in households with a 8.4/13 HH rating, second in viewers (13.47M), and second in A18-49, delivering a 5.2/13 rating in that demo.

  • At 7:00 PM, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (9.58M viewers, 3.0/9 A18-49 rating) held firm from the week prior.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households -5.9/10 – 5.5/9
      • Viewers -9.81M to 9.58M
      • A18-49 -3.2 to 3.0
  • At 8:00 PM, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (12.68M viewers, 4.9/12 A18-49 rating) built comfortably out of its lead-in.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 8.7/14 to 7.4/11
      • Viewers – 14.90M to 12.68M
      • A18-49 – 5.7 to 4.9
  • At 9:00 PM, “Desperate Housewives” (19.51M viewers, 8.0/18 A18-49 rating) provided the nights highest audience, viewers and Adults 18-49 against the top-rated MLB Playoff game of the season.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 7.8/14 to 12.4/18
      • Viewers – 20.64M to 19.51M
      • A18-49 – 8.3 to 8.0
  • At 10:00 PM, “Brothers & Sisters” (12.10M viewers, 5.0/12 A18-49 rating) pretty much mimicked its performance from the week prior.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 6.3/11 to 8.4/14
      • Viewers – 12.15M to 12.10M
      • A18-49 – 5.0 to 5.0

CBS finished tied for second place in households with a 8.4/13 HH rating, was third in viewers (13.06M), and third in A18-49, delivering a 3.0/9 rating in that demo.

  • At 7:00 PM, “60 Minutes” (11.79M viewers, 2.6/8 A18-49 rating) suffered some from the week before, but it was expected, as it didn’t lead out of NFL Overrun, like it did last week.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households -11.4/18 to 8.1/14
      • Viewers – 17.28M to 11.79M
      • A18-49 – 4.5 to 2.6
  • At 8:00 PM, “The Amazing Race” (10.99M viewers, 3.8/9 A18-49 rating) was down minimally from the week prior.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 7.3/11 to 6.8/11
      • Viewers – 11.65M to 10.99M
      • A18-49 – 4.1 to 3.8
  • At 9:00 PM, “Cold Case” (14.64M viewers, 4.3/10 A18-49 rating) built strongly out of its lead-in half-hour to half-hour.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 9.5/15 to 9.2/14
      • Viewers – 13.97M to 14.64M
      • A18-49 – 4.1 to 4.3
  • At 10:00 PM, “Without a Trace” (14.83M viewers, 4.3/11) was CBS’s top performer on the evening in all categories.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 10.2/16 to 9.6/16
      • Viewers – 15.17M to 14.83M
      • A18-49 – 4.5 to 4.3

NBC followed in fourth for the evening delivering a 3.5/5 HH rating (5.14M viewers) and a 2.1/5 A18-49 rating.

  • At 7:00 PM, “Football Night in America” (2.4/4 , 1.3/4) opened the evening for NBC, leading into a “Heroes” marathon.
  • From 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, three repeats of “Heroes” (5.70M viewers, 2.4/6 A18-49 rating) replaced the normal “Sunday Night Football” contest, as NBC chose to take a bye during a World Series game.

The CW finished in fifth for the evening delivering a 1.6/2 HH rating (2.34M viewers) and a 0.9/2 A18-49 rating.

  • At 7:00 PM, a repeat of “Smallville” (1.80M viewers, 0.7/2 A18-49 rating)
  • At 8:00 PM, “7th Heaven” (3.25M viewers, 1.1/3 A18-49 rating) built its audience a little bit from the week before, but pretty much stayed even.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 2.1/3 to 2.2/3
      • Viewers – 3.17M to 3.25M
      • A18-49 – 1.1 to 1.1
  • At 7:00 PM, an encore presentation of the Wednesday’s “America’s Next Top Model” (1.97M viewers, 0.9/2 A18-49 rating).
